The Battle of the Low-Ranked: Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals Face Off in IPL 2023

Despite ending their losing skid, the Capitals have made frequent lineup changes, and Sunrisers’ top order remains concerning.

David Warner visits the location of his previous franchise

SRH and the Delhi Capitals are looking for a speedy answer to their batting issues.

Two teams at the bottom of the standings will compete against one another in an effort to gain some momentum for the IPL 2023 season. Both Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a challenging season. The Sunrisers are coming into this match with a two-game losing streak. Last time, the Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a score of four wickets to end their five-game losing streak.

As they go for Sunrisers Hyderabad, they will be hoping that the victory marks the beginning of brighter things. For that, the Capitals will need to make changes to their batting unit, which has been absent. After six games, nobody has hit more than 100 runs, with the exception of David Warner and Axar Patel.

The issue begins at the top with Prithvi Shaw, who has only mustered 47 runs in six innings this season with an average of just 7.83 and has been inserted into the powerplay each time. The middle order has also struggled to get going, especially the international group. Mitchell Marsh has scored six runs in four games, Rovman Powell has scored seven, Rilee Rossouw has scored 44, and Phil Salt, who entered the game late, has scored just five.

As a result, there has been frequent turnover in the Delhi Capitals unit. In the six games, they have named 12 different lineups for their team and have failed to do so.

Warner, who is going back to one of his favorite places, will once again bear the responsibility. Warner has scored 1602 runs in 31 innings in Sunrisers Hyderabad, the highest of any batsman in the IPL, with three hundred and 15 fifties.

Should Brook bat in the middle of the Sunrisers' order

The Capitals sign Garg in exchange for Nagarkoti

Kamlesh Nagarkoti will be replaced for the remainder of the season by Priyam Garg, according to the Delhi Capitals. Nagarkoti, who did not play in any of the IPL 2023 games, has been ruled out. His lower back developed a stress fracture following that. Garg, whose basic salary is INR 20 lakh, has appeared in 21 games for SRH over the course of three seasons.

The SRH head coach, Brian Lara, has indicated that the club will play with the Brook-Abhishek opening combination for a “period of time,” with Mayank filling the role of a floater. With the exception of Khaleel Ahmed’s hamstring injury last week, there haven’t been any new developments about the Delhi Capitals. Shaw’s position on the side could be investigated.

Impact Player strategy

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Regarding the Impact Player, SRH has employed a horses-for-course method devoid of any recurring patterns. They substituted Mayank Dagar with Rahul Tripathi following the first innings of their most recent match against Chennai Super Kings. Depending on the surface, Tripathi or T Natarajan could replace him in the playing XI if SRH elects to bat first and switch him out for the second innings, likewise if they bowl first.

Probable XII:

Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook, Abhishek Sharma, and Fourth Aiden Markram, Five Mayank Agarwal, 6.6 Heinrich Klaasen Mark Jansen, Arlington Sundar, Bovneshwar Kumar, 11 Umran Malik, 12 T Natarajan/Mayank Dagar, and 10 Mayank Markande

Delhi Capitals

After winning a game, the Delhi Capitals might not want to change their lineup unless they want a change at the top. If Shaw is benched after being utilized as an impact player in the previous four games, Delhi may choose to open with Phil Salt and place Sarfaraz Khan in the middle of the order. As an Impact sub, he might switch places with Ishant Sharma or Mukesh Kumar.

Probable XII:

Phil Salt (wk), David Warner (captain), and 3 Mitchell Marsh, 4 Sarfaraz Khan/Prithvi Shaw, Five Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Seven Lalit Yadav, (8) Aman Khan Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Ishant Sharma are the other four players.

Important statistics

  • In comparison to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey only averages 5.0. In six innings, he has been defeated four times by the fast bowler.
  • Behind Virat Kohli (2545 in Bengaluru), AB de Villiers (1960 in Bengaluru), and Rohit Sharma (1602 in Mumbai), David Warner scored 1602 runs in Sunrisers Hyderabad, the fourth-most by a batter at a venue.
  • In this season’s power play, the Capitals have yet to score a six. Just 15 sixes have been made by them throughout this season.
  • In a T20 match against Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Tripathi makes a strike at 242.85.

Pitch and circumstances

The batting team has benefited from the surface in each of the first three games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. There is a potential that a few cracks will start to appear as a result of the sun’s intense heat. Dew might potentially have a role in the game’s second half. In two of the three games played here, batting first has been the winning strategy thus far.

Quotes
